FB_IMG_1511797416885I met Emma Plunket at Easter 2017 when I took part in the Cómpeta Art Walk. She contacted me during the Summer to say she was inviting artists to take part in an exhibition and would I be interested? Little did I know how amazing the venue she found would be….the old sugar factory in Motril, in the South of Spain. The local government renovated it a few years ago and the result is an amazing space, a small scale Tate Modern! I hit the ground running on my return to Spain with only 10 days to make the requested ‘large’ work. I set about making the panels ….couldn’t buy in Spain as they would have taken too long to arrive! My intention was to make a large diptych and some large circles..the latter based on my small collages.1509050811678 I worked like a demon..building layers of paint, scraping back, rebuilding. Here’s an image of some of the many stages of the creation of the large piece. Ten days later I uploaded my submission and waited to hear from Emma. She wanted the large painting and two of the three circles! Last Friday was the opening..or inauguration as they call it here. A packed venue…well over 250 people, a good mix of nationalities. 50 artists each showing at least one piece and professionally curated and hung by Gareth.
